Shrewsbury Fire Today- Blaze at Hoo Zoo Office Block Contained; Owners Hospitalized, Privately Owned Animals Lost

A fire at Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World near Shrewsbury, Shropshire, prompted a swift emergency response on Tuesday morning, with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service successfully bringing the blaze under control before it could spread to the zoo’s main animal enclosures.

According to an official update released by the zoo, the fire broke out in the office block on the property. Firefighters responded quickly to extinguish the blaze, preventing further damage across the site. Zoo officials expressed their gratitude to Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service for their rapid response and professionalism during the incident.

Initially, the zoo confirmed that none of its public collection animals had been harmed. However, in a later update, management announced the heartbreaking loss of several privately owned animals, including stick insects, a snake, and a hedgehog, which died as a result of the fire.

The zoo explained that these animals belonged personally to the owners and were never part of the public exhibits. Their loss has left the owners devastated, though they expressed sincere appreciation to firefighters for preventing the fire from reaching other areas of the zoo and protecting the remaining animals.

Two of the zoo’s owners were also taken to hospital as a precaution after suffering smoke inhalation during the incident. Fortunately, officials confirmed that both individuals have since been discharged and are recovering well.

Throughout the day, the zoo’s animal care team closely monitored every enclosure to ensure the health and wellbeing of the animals in their care. Management has confirmed that all zoo animals remain safe, healthy, and continue to be monitored by dedicated keepers following the incident.

As a result of the fire, Hoo Zoo has asked visitors who had pre-booked admission tickets or animal experiences for the affected day to contact the zoo by email to rearrange their visit. Guests have been advised to include their booking reference number and preferred alternative date when requesting a new reservation.

The incident has generated widespread support from the local community, with many people expressing sympathy for the zoo owners following the loss of their privately owned animals while also praising firefighters for preventing a potentially much larger disaster.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been publicly disclosed, and any investigation into how the blaze started is expected to continue.

While the fire caused emotional and material losses, officials say the quick actions of emergency responders prevented more extensive damage and ensured the safety of the zoo’s public animal collection. The thoughts of many remain with the owners as they recover from the ordeal and mourn the loss of their cherished animals.
