For nearly seven decades, Fr. Cobb was far more than a Jesuit priest—he was a trusted teacher, compassionate mentor, spiritual guide, coach, and friend. Known for his warmth, humility, and unwavering commitment to others, he played an integral role in making Bellarmine a welcoming and inspiring place for all.
Fr. Cobb first arrived at Bellarmine as a Jesuit scholastic in 1957, beginning a lifelong relationship with the institution. Over the years, he served in many roles, including English teacher, coach, retreat leader, chaplain, and admissions staff member. He also dedicated himself to supporting first-generation college applicants, offering encouragement and guidance to students navigating new opportunities.
Even after transitioning to focus on adult spirituality, Fr. Cobb remained a beloved presence on campus. He regularly attended events and visited the school, greeting everyone with his signature smile and genuine kindness. His remarkable ability to remember names and make each person feel valued left a lasting impression on countless lives.
In a tribute, Bellarmine President Chris Meyercord ’88 praised Fr. Cobb’s gentle humor, generosity, and deep faith, noting that every interaction with him reflected his mission to help others recognize God’s love.
