Raffaele Annecchino Death, Obituary: Former Paramount International CEO Dies Suddenly at 55
The global entertainment industry is mourning the sudden death of Raffaele Annecchino, the former president and CEO of Paramount International who played a major role in expanding some of the world’s biggest television and streaming brands.
Annecchino died at the age of 55 after suffering from acute meningitis while on vacation in the Balearic Islands, according to reports from entertainment industry publications. His death was reported on September 3 and 4, 2026, prompting tributes from former colleagues and senior figures who worked with him during his more than two decades in international media.
Born in Italy, Annecchino built an influential career after joining the company in Madrid in the late 1990s. Over more than 25 years with Paramount and its predecessor companies, including Viacom and ViacomCBS, he progressed from a commercial role to become one of the organization’s most important international executives.
His leadership extended across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Latin America. During his time at the company, Annecchino was closely involved in the international expansion of Paramount+, the growth of Pluto TV, and the development of SkyShowtime, the streaming service created through a partnership between Paramount and Comcast.
He also oversaw businesses and brands including MTV, Nickelodeon, BET, Channel 5 in the United Kingdom, Network 10 in Australia, Telefe and Chilevisión. His work helped shape the company’s transition from traditional television broadcasting toward digital and streaming platforms.
Before reaching the top levels of Paramount, Annecchino worked with Turner International, Cartoon Network and CNN. After leaving Paramount in 2022, he founded Blue Ocean Media Partners, a global media consultancy focused on innovation, transformation and growth. He later worked as a consultant and adviser with Mediapro Middle East.
News of his death prompted emotional tributes from people who had worked alongside him. Former Paramount chief executive Bob Bakish described Annecchino as a “force of nature” and said he had been taken far too young. Other former colleagues remembered his leadership, warmth, generosity and strong interest in developing businesses and people around the world.
His impact was particularly remembered across Africa, where Annecchino had been involved in the growth of Paramount’s businesses and entertainment brands. Former colleagues praised his support for African markets, local talent and young audiences, while remembering him as a leader who made people feel valued.
Raffaele Annecchino’s death represents a significant loss for the international media industry. At just 55, he leaves behind a professional legacy shaped by global expansion, streaming innovation and the relationships he built throughout a career spanning more than 25 years.
For colleagues, friends and industry professionals who knew him, Annecchino will be remembered not only for his executive achievements but also for his personality, encouragement and lasting influence on the people and businesses he helped develop.
