Todd M. Legg Obituary: Beloved Pennsylvania Teacher Dies at 53 After Six-Year ALS Battle
The Brackney, Pennsylvania, community is mourning the loss of Todd M. Legg, a beloved educator, husband, father, coach, outdoorsman, and friend whose life was defined by service, humor, courage, and devotion to others.
Todd, 53, passed away on September 2, 2026, following a courageous six-year battle with ALS. Born on October 1, 1972, in Binghamton, New York, he was the son of Cynthia Donald Conaty and Bruce Legg. His passing has left family members, former students, colleagues, teammates, and friends remembering a man who made a lasting difference in countless lives.
After graduating from Montrose Area High School, Todd continued his education at West Chester University before earning a master’s degree from Wilkes University. He went on to dedicate nearly three decades to teaching high school mathematics at Montrose Area High School.
For Todd, teaching was more than a profession. He was deeply committed to helping young people learn, develop confidence, and reach their potential. Even as ALS increasingly affected his daily life, he remained determined to stay connected to his students and continued working with colleagues to find ways to remain in the classroom.
Away from school, Todd enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors, especially with his sons. He also coached baseball and was remembered for his quick wit, sarcastic sense of humor, generosity, and willingness to lend a hand. Whether helping with construction, landscaping, or another project, Todd was someone people could count on.
His experience with ALS also inspired him to become an advocate for research and awareness. Through his work with ALS TDI and by openly sharing his journey, he sought to encourage others and contribute to efforts aimed at understanding and fighting the disease.
Todd is survived by his wife of 14 years, Kim Forys Legg, and their sons, Ethan, Colin, and Zachary, as well as his father, siblings, and extended family.
A memorial Mass is scheduled for September 10 at St. Augustine’s Church, followed by a celebration of Todd’s life at the Montrose VFW.
Todd Legg’s legacy will live on through the students he taught, the family he cherished, and the many people whose lives he touched. His story is one of perseverance, kindness, humor, and an enduring willingness to give more than he received.
