Anthony Joseph Blas Death: 18-Year-Old Cal State Fullerton Student Dies After Fraternity Event
Anthony Joseph Blas, an 18-year-old student at California State University, Fullerton, died after attending a fraternity-related event, according to the Fullerton Police Department. Authorities said alcohol consumption appears to have been a contributing factor in his death, while investigators have found no evidence of foul play.
Blas was taken to the emergency department at St. Jude Medical Center shortly after midnight Saturday, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The circumstances surrounding the events leading to his hospitalization remain under investigation.
According to investigators, Blas had attended an event associated with an unaffiliated fraternity before he was taken to the hospital. Police said that, based on their investigation so far, alcohol consumption appears to have contributed to the young student’s death.
Authorities also clarified that hazing was not considered a factor in the incident. Police said there is currently no evidence indicating foul play, although the investigation remains ongoing. Additional information could be released as investigators continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding Blas’ death.
The death came only months after Blas celebrated an important milestone in his education. In May, Los Altos High School recognized him as a graduating senior and highlighted his impressive list of college acceptances.
Blas had been accepted to numerous universities, including Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly Pomona, Sacramento State, the University of Pittsburgh, University of Arizona, Michigan State University, University of Oregon, Northern Arizona University, Oregon State University, Arizona State University, University of Nevada, Reno, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Whittier College, Cal Lutheran, University of La Verne, Utah State University, Utah Tech University and the University of Utah.
He had chosen to continue his education at Cal State Fullerton, where he had only recently begun his college journey.
His death has brought attention to the circumstances surrounding the fraternity event and the potential dangers associated with excessive alcohol consumption among young adults. However, authorities have not released a final determination regarding the precise cause of death.
The Fullerton Police Department’s investigation is ongoing. Further details about the medical findings, circumstances of the event and any funeral or memorial arrangements may become available as the investigation progresses.
