The Czech hockey community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jakub Mládek, a promising young goaltender from SHKM Baník Hodonín, who tragically passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at just 20 years old. His sudden death has left family, friends, teammates, coaches, and supporters devastated as they remember a talented athlete whose passion for hockey and kind-hearted personality touched countless lives.
Born on December 22, 2005, Jakub spent his entire hockey journey with SHKM Baník Hodonín, joining the club’s youth program when he was only six years old. Unlike many players who move between teams throughout their careers, Baník remained his only hockey home. He proudly progressed through every junior level before earning a place with the club’s men’s B team, where he most recently played during the 2022–23 Czech 3. liga season.
Jakub was admired not only for his ability between the pipes but also for his dedication, discipline, and determination to improve every day. Coaches praised his strong work ethic, while teammates remember him as a dependable friend who brought energy, positivity, and encouragement into every locker room. His sportsmanship and humility earned him the respect of teammates and opponents alike.
Following news of his passing, SHKM Baník Hodonín released a heartfelt tribute, describing Jakub as a valued member of the club who would forever remain part of the Baník family. The organisation extended its deepest condolences to his loved ones while thanking him for the years he devoted to the club.
As tributes continue to pour in from across Czech hockey, many are remembering Jakub not only for his promise as a goaltender but also for the kindness and friendship he shared with everyone around him.
Although his life ended far too soon, Jakub Mládek’s legacy will live on through the memories he created, the teammates he inspired, and the community that will forever remember him.
May Jakub Mládek rest in eternal peace.
