The Bayard, Nebraska, community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Brock Porter Burry, who tragically passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the age of 20. His unexpected passing has left his family, friends, classmates, and everyone who knew him with profound sadness.

Brock was remembered as a kind, humble, and compassionate young man whose gentle personality made a lasting impression on those around him. Though his life was far too short, he brought joy, kindness, and encouragement to many people and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A recent graduate of the Northeast Community College Utility Lineman Program, Brock was excited about the future ahead of him. He was preparing to begin a career built on dedication, hard work, and service to others. Those close to him admired his determination, quiet confidence, and willingness to take on new challenges as he entered the next chapter of his life.

Brock’s years involved in wrestling helped shape the person he became, teaching him discipline, perseverance, and resilience. However, his greatest legacy was not found in accomplishments but in the way he treated people. Friends and family describe him as someone with a caring heart who was always ready to offer help, support, or a listening ear whenever someone needed him.

Outside of his studies and responsibilities, Brock found happiness in simple moments. He enjoyed fishing, playing chess, performing magic tricks for family and friends, and sharing his love of music through concerts and memorable experiences with those closest to him. Whether spending time outdoors, connecting with loved ones, or enjoying conversations online, Brock had a special ability to make others feel valued and appreciated.

His strong work ethic, generosity, and willingness to lend a helping hand reflected the character he carried throughout his life. He leaves behind countless memories that will continue to bring comfort to those mourning his loss.

Brock is survived by his loving parents, Brent and Kimberly Burry; his brother, Bryce Burry and Grace Elvehjem; his sister, Grace Burry; his bonus brother and cousin, Kolby Houchin; his grandfather, Donald Burry; and his grandmother, Jeanne Houchin, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Burry, and paternal grandfather, Hugh Houchin.

A funeral service honoring Brock’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Bayard High School Auditorium in Bayard, Nebraska, with Pastor Bill Ferrero officiating. Burial will follow at Bayard Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family and will support a scholarship in Brock’s memory for Vo-Tech students.

Although Brock’s time on earth lasted only 20 years, the love, kindness, and compassion he shared will continue to live on through everyone he touched. His memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to his family, friends, and the entire Bayard community.
