Michael O’Toole Obituary Oswego, IL Death : Neuqua Valley High School Mourns Beloved Coach and Assistant Principal

Michael Anthony “Mike” O’Toole spent much of his life helping young people believe in themselves. For 23 years, he served the Neuqua Valley High School community as a history teacher, basketball coach, dean, and, ultimately, assistant principal. His death on July 29, 2026, at age 49 has left students, athletes, colleagues, friends, and family mourning a man remembered for compassion, humor, and extraordinary dedication.

According to the obituary information provided, Mike passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. His 23-year career at Neuqua Valley became more than a profession; it was a lasting commitment to the students and athletes he mentored.

Former players remembered his ability to see potential in others and encourage them through difficult moments. One former athlete recalled Mike’s support after losing vision in one eye during high school, describing how the coach encouraged him to continue competing despite the challenge.

Away from school, Mike was a devoted husband to his wife, Rose, and father to Bridget, Patrick, and Sean. Family remained central to his life, with shared travel, sporting events, and time together among the experiences they treasured.

Mike also embraced challenges personally, enjoying hiking, CrossFit, jiu-jitsu, and marathon running. His adventurous spirit reflected the resilience and determination he encouraged in others.

Visitation is scheduled for August 3 at Dunn Family Funeral Home in Oswego, followed by a Celebration of Life at Neuqua Valley High School on August 4.
