Amber Simmons Accident Lake Odessa, MI Death Obituary: Family and Friends Mourn 16-Year-Old Who Dies in Tragic Accident
The Sunfield, Michigan, community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Amber Ann Simmons, a 16-year-old remembered for her kindness, compassion, joyful spirit and deep love for family, friends, and animals.
Amber died on July 27, 2026, following a tragic accident. Born on September 7, 2009, she was the cherished daughter of Todd and Julie Simmons and a beloved granddaughter, niece, cousin, and friend.
Those closest to Amber remember a young woman who found happiness in simple moments. She loved animals, nature, books, music and spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking with her mother and helping her father with mechanical projects. She also treasured trips, musicals and visits to bookstores with her grandparents.
Amber had been in a loving relationship with Ethan Schlappi, her longtime boyfriend and soulmate. The couple shared interests that included demolition derbies and caring for their ducks, chickens, and cat, Buck. Ethan died two days before Amber, adding another heartbreaking loss for those who knew them.
Her Christian faith was becoming increasingly important to Amber and guided her compassion for others. She had also dreamed of attending culinary school.
One of her final acts showed the generosity that defined her. After recently receiving her driver’s license, Amber chose to become an organ donor. Following an Honor Walk at the hospital, her donation gave others the possibility of life during an otherwise devastating time.
A celebration of Amber’s life was scheduled for August 1 at the Simmons family home in Sunfield. Memorial contributions were directed toward the Be Nice Foundation.
Amber’s life was far too short, but her radiant smile, loving heart and selfless spirit will continue to be remembered by everyone who knew her.
