Chase Day Accident Provo UT Death Obituary: Remembering a Young Pilot Whose Dreams Took Flight

Chase Day was remembered by those closest to him as a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend who pursued his dreams with passion. His life was cut short Friday when the aircraft he was piloting crashed into Utah Lake near Utah Lake State Park in Provo.

Day was identified by his family through a fundraiser established following the tragedy. According to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, the aircraft had recently departed from nearby Provo Airport when first responders were notified of the crash at approximately 4 p.m.

A female passenger was also aboard the plane. She survived the crash with non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities said the aircraft came down in relatively shallow water, which assisted rescue and recovery efforts.

Day had recently earned his private pilot’s license and dreamed of becoming a commercial pilot, according to the GoFundMe organized by Ryan Bunker. The fundraiser was created to help his family with funeral expenses and costs associated with his flight training.

“He was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend to so many,” Bunker wrote, describing Day as someone who brought passion and heart to everything he did.

Details about Day’s early life, career and personal accomplishments beyond those shared by his family have not been publicly confirmed.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash, while the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting its own investigation.

For those who loved Chase Day, his life will be remembered not only for the dream he pursued in the skies, but for the warmth and love he brought to the people around him.
