Sally Jane Bedell Obituary, ARLINGTON, Va. — Sally Jane Bedell, 19, lost her life on August 9, 2025, leaving behind family, friends, classmates, teammates, and others who knew her and cherished the time they shared with her. Although her life ended at a young age, she was remembered for her vibrant personality, curiosity, determination, and strong ability to connect people.

Sally was the middle of three children and embraced that role with her own sense of humor and personality. Those close to her described her as someone who brought people together, with a bright smile, an energetic presence, and a voice full of life. Her relationships with friends, classmates, and members of the communities around her reflected the warmth and enthusiasm she brought to everyday experiences.

Her educational journey included Rock Spring Cooperative Preschool, Taylor and Swanson, and eight summers at Camp Twin Creeks in West Virginia. She graduated from the Potomac School in 2024 and went on to UCLA, where she was pursuing a dual degree in cognitive science and linguistic computer science. She was also a member of Alpha Phi sorority.

Sally had a strong adventurous spirit and embraced opportunities to experience new places and activities. Her travels included riding camels in Egypt, zip-lining in Belize, and tracking animals on safari in Botswana. She also supported the U.S. women’s soccer team during the Paris World Cup. At home, she enjoyed the beach, downhill skiing, waterskiing, yoga, long walks in Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, reading, music, and spending time with friends.

Athletics was another important part of Sally’s life. She participated in the Tiger Sharks swim team, Arlington Soccer, and the Potomac cross-country and soccer teams. She was particularly proud of being a founding member of the Mustaches basketball team, where she became known as a determined rebounder despite being 5 feet 5 inches tall. Her involvement in sports reflected her willingness to participate, compete, and contribute to the teams and communities she joined.

Sally also demonstrated a commitment to helping others. She tutored younger children in reading and mathematics and worked as an activities coordinator at a senior living facility in Westwood, California. Her experiences supporting both children and older adults reflected the range of relationships and communities that became part of her life.

Above all, Sally was deeply loved by her relatives. She was the daughter of Rachel and Jeff Bedell, sister to Henry and Maisy, and granddaughter to Ben Perri and Janet and Dennis Bedell. She was also loved by her extended relatives, including aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her family and friends will go on to remember her through the experiences they shared, from childhood and school years to summers at camp, athletic activities, travels, and time spent together.

Sally Jane Bedell’s legacy is reflected in the people she brought together, the children she tutored, the teammates and friends she supported, and the family people who loved her. Her life, though only 19 years long, included education, friendship, athletics, travel, service, and countless experiences that will remain part of the memories of those who knew her.
