Kelly Ann Barlow Barr Obituary: West Jefferson, North Carolina – Beloved Mother and Grandmother Passed Away Unexpectedly
Kelly Ann Barlow Barr Obituary, WEST JEFFERSON, N.C. — Kelly Ann Barlow Barr, 60, of West Jefferson, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, August 9, 2026, at Ashe Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her children and family following a courageous battle with a brief illness.
Born in Ashe County, Kelly was the daughter of Thomas Knight Barlow and Mary Lou Lewis Barlow. She grew up in the Buck Mountain community of West Jefferson and maintained a number of friendships from her early years. She graduated from Beaver Creek High School before attending cosmetology school in Wilkesboro.
Kelly devoted 34 years of her life to working as a hairdresser, serving members of her community before eventually retiring from the profession. She later earned her real estate license and spent her remaining professional years working alongside her husband, Chris, as a realtor with Realty One.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Kelly was deeply devoted to her loved ones. Her role as a mother and grandmother was especially significant to her, and she was described as someone who never missed an event and consistently offered her support. She was remembered for her caring heart, willingness to listen, quick wit and beautiful smile.
Kelly also enjoyed capturing sunrises and sunsets and sharing photographs of what she viewed as God’s creation with friends and family on social media. She enjoyed planning vacations with her family and traveling to different places across the country and beyond, creating memories with those closest to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy Barlow and Mary Lou Barlow; her infant twin sisters, Sherri Sue and Terri Lou Barlow; and her mother-in-law, Linda Barr. She is survived by her husband, Chris; daughter Emery; sons Sid Carpenter and Jesse Carpenter; grandchildren Hayes, Landrey and Smith; sister Kim Furches; brother Keith Barlow; father-in-law Wilson Barr; brother-in-law Rusty Barr; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Kelly Barlow Barr are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2026, at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Glendale Springs, with Rev. Frank Woods, Rev. Tom Graybeal and Rev. Brian Furches officiating. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 13, at Boone Family Funeral Home in West Jefferson.
Kelly Ann Barlow Barr’s life was marked by decades of service to her community, devotion to her relatives and the relationships she built throughout her life. She will be remembered by her relatives, friends and many others whose lives she touched. The family has requested that memorials be made to Medi Home Hospice or Ashe County Relay for Life.
