Tonya Evette Abbott (nee: Yetman) Obituary – Gander, NL Death: Gander Community Mourns Beloved Entrepreneur Who Passed Away
Tonya Evette Abbott lived a life filled with hard work, entrepreneurship, love, and adventure. A proud Ganderite who built her career around people and community, Tonya passed away suddenly on August 10, 2026, at the age of 58, leaving family and friends heartbroken.
Born and raised in Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, Tonya began working at the Gander Golf Course at just 13 years old. Her love for the sport eventually led her to become manager of the Gander Golf Club, a position she held with great pride. She also studied at the Golf Management Institute of Canada.
Tonya later entered entrepreneurship with her husband, Dwayne Abbott. Together, they operated the Inn on Bennett for more than five years, combining Tonya’s business skills with Dwayne’s cooking talents to create a welcoming environment for guests.
The couple later fulfilled another dream by running The All New Rosie’s Restaurant on Roe. Tonya worked alongside Dwayne until his unexpected death in 2022 at age 57. She continued operating the restaurant for three years before retiring in 2025.
Travel was another important part of Tonya’s life. She loved discovering new places and experiencing different cultures, particularly enjoying the opportunities she had to travel during her final year.
Tonya was predeceased by Dwayne, her son Matthew, her parents Allan and Marie Yetman, and other loved ones.
She leaves behind her brother Richard, sisters Donna and Christina, numerous relatives, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and her Cuban godson Jason.
Cremation had taken place according to her wishes. Visitation was held at Stacey’s Funeral Home, followed by her funeral service at St. Martin’s Anglican Cathedral in Gander.
Tonya’s warmth, determination and adventurous spirit will remain cherished by all who knew her.
