Avery Lora Detten Death, Obituary: Texas A&M Animal Science Student Dies at 20
The Texas A&M University community is mourning the loss of Avery Lora Detten, a junior Animal Science student from Hereford, Texas, whose life was remembered during the university’s solemn Silver Taps ceremony on Tuesday, September 1. Avery was born on April 10, 2006, and died on May 26, 2026, according to Texas A&M student media.
Avery is being remembered as a devoted daughter, sister, friend, and Aggie whose life was marked by kindness, determination, generosity, and a genuine concern for those around her. Her family and friends have shared memories of a young woman who consistently made time for the people she loved.
Her passion for agriculture began when she was young. Avery joined 4-H at the age of eight and continued participating in 4-H and FFA competitions throughout high school. Her commitment to agriculture continued at Texas A&M, where she studied Animal Science and worked as a student assistant in the university’s Animal Science department.
Away from her studies, Avery had a deep appreciation for music. In her hometown of Hereford, she worked as a local DJ for KPAN, sharing music with listeners and developing a reputation for carefully selecting songs. Her family fondly remembered how she would often take control of the radio during road trips, turning ordinary journeys into cherished family memories.
Those who knew Avery also remember her for her willingness to help others. Her mother recalled moments when Avery went out of her way to support friends and relatives, reflecting the caring and dependable personality that made her so special.
Even after her passing, Avery’s generosity will continue to touch lives. She chose to become an organ donor, allowing her kindness to potentially help others. Her family has also discussed plans for a scholarship in her name, which could provide a lasting tribute to her life and dedication.
Texas A&M’s Silver Taps ceremony brought students, faculty, family members, and friends together at Academic Plaza at 10:30 p.m. on September 1 to honor Avery and other students who had passed away. The university tradition remains one of the most solemn ways the Aggie community remembers its lost students.
As Avery’s loved ones grieve, they continue to celebrate the memories of a young woman who loved agriculture, music, family, friendship, and Texas A&M.
Our deepest condolences go to Avery’s family, friends, classmates, and everyone affected by her passing. May her kindness, generosity, and Aggie spirit continue to live on through those who knew her.
May Avery Lora Detten rest in peace.
