Danny Devito Death, Obituary: Danny DeVito Death Rumors Debunked as Actor Remains Alive and Active
The Rumors claiming that beloved actor and filmmaker Danny DeVito has died have spread online, prompting concern among fans, but the reports are false. DeVito, 81, remains alive and active in the entertainment industry.
The latest wave of speculation appeared online in early September 2026, after a social media post featuring a black-and-white image of the actor and dates associated with his birth and the current year was mistaken by some users for a death announcement. The post was actually connected to an advance birthday message for DeVito, who will turn 82 on November 17.
Recent appearances and interviews also contradict the death rumors. In July, DeVito spoke publicly about his career, family and life in Hollywood, while a September interview focused on his continuing work on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and his interest in potentially reuniting with longtime screen partner Arnold Schwarzenegger.
DeVito has remained one of Hollywood’s most recognizable performers throughout a career spanning more than five decades. He first gained widespread attention as Louie De Palma on the television series Taxi, a role that earned him major industry recognition. He later became known internationally through films including Romancing the Stone, Twins, Batman Returns, Matilda, Get Shorty and Jumanji: The Next Level.
His work has extended beyond acting. DeVito has also established himself as a director and producer, directing films such as Throw Momma from the Train, The War of the Roses and Matilda, while helping bring a wide range of acclaimed productions to audiences.
For generations of viewers, DeVito has remained a distinctive presence on television and in film, known for his energetic performances, unmistakable voice and unconventional comic style. His role as Frank Reynolds on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which he joined in 2006, has introduced his work to another generation of fans.
The false reports of his death are a reminder of how quickly celebrity death rumors can spread online, particularly when misleading images or posts are shared without their original context. As of September 2026, there is no credible confirmation that Danny DeVito has died.
Instead, the actor continues to work and remains an active figure in Hollywood, with fans still looking forward to his upcoming projects and future appearances.
