Dayce Newman Accident, Camrose County, AB Death- Bashaw Firefighter and 13-Year-Old Son Killed in Camrose County Crash

The Bashaw, Alberta, community is mourning the tragic deaths of firefighter Dayce Newman, 35, and his 13-year-old son, who were killed in a vehicle collision near Armena on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

The Bashaw Volunteer Firefighters shared news of the deaths on September 16, extending their thoughts and prayers to the Newman family and remembering Dayce as a valued member of the department. Fellow firefighters said he would be deeply missed by the teammates and community members who knew him.

According to Alberta RCMP, members of the Camrose and Wetaskiwin detachments, along with Wetaskiwin EMS, responded at approximately 4:37 p.m. to a fatal collision at Highway 21 and Township Road 481, approximately 20 kilometres northwest of Camrose.

The crash involved a motorcycle and a pickup truck hauling a utility trailer. RCMP said the 35-year-old male motorcycle driver and his 13-year-old male passenger, both residents of Camrose County, were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The available information identifies Dayce Newman as the motorcycle driver and his son as the young passenger who died alongside him.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 78-year-old man from Camrose, and his 76-year-old female passenger were not reported to have suffered injuries.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene as investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the crash. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

The crash also resulted in the closure of Highway 21 for several hours. According to 511 Alberta, the roadway reopened at approximately 9:41 p.m.

Dayce’s death has resonated beyond the fire department. The Town of Bashaw expressed condolences to the Newman family, his fellow firefighters, friends, and everyone affected by the tragedy. Mayor Cindy Orom recognized his service and dedication to the community, while Coun. Kyle McIntosh expressed support for members of the fire department during the difficult period.

Beyond his work as a firefighter, Dayce was also involved with the Edmonton chapter of the Freedom Warriors Motorcycle Alliance and the Camrose and District Soccer Association.
