Marvins Antoine Dies at 18 After Providence Stabbing, UMass Dartmouth Football Player Remembered

Fall River, Massachusetts, is mourning the tragic loss of Marvins Antoine, an 18-year-old athlete and UMass Dartmouth freshman who died after being stabbed during an altercation in Providence, Rhode Island.

Antoine, who had only recently begun his college journey, was among two UMass Dartmouth football players injured during an incident that began at Mezza Lounge and later continued into the parking lot of the Wendy’s restaurant on Charles Street. Providence police said two men were stabbed during the confrontation.

Antoine suffered stab wounds to the chest and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite efforts to save his life, he was later pronounced dead.

The second victim, a 19-year-old man, suffered injuries to his head and neck that were described as non-life-threatening. He was also taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.

According to police, both victims were members of the UMass Dartmouth football team and had been at Mezza Lounge with other members of their team before the altercation occurred.

The death of Antoine has left his family, friends, teammates and former classmates grieving the loss of a young man remembered for his personality and athletic ability. A friend described him as outgoing and funny, saying he had a way of bringing laughter and smiles to those around him.

Antoine was also known for his commitment to sports. Before beginning college, he played both basketball and football at Durfee and Atlantis Charter schools. As a football player, he played the running back position, building a reputation as a talented young athlete.

Following the stabbing, investigators identified a suspect who is being held by the UMass Dartmouth Police Department. Detectives remain focused on determining what led to the altercation and the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing.

For Antoine’s loved ones, the tragedy comes at a time when his future was only beginning to unfold. He had recently entered college with opportunities ahead of him, making his sudden death particularly difficult for those who knew him.

Family, friends, teammates and members of the Fall River community are now left remembering Antoine through the moments he shared with them, his sense of humor and his achievements on the football and basketball fields.

His death has brought renewed grief to those closest to him as they mourn an 18-year-old whose life was cut tragically short.
