The communities of Mount Desert, Bar Harbor, and Roque Bluffs, Maine, are mourning the tragic deaths of Sharon Bukulmez, 61, and her two young grandchildren, Kinsley Grubb, 5, and Sawyer Grubb, 3. The three were found inside a vehicle submerged in Pond Cove in Roque Bluffs on Sunday morning, September 20, 2026, after they were reported missing.

According to Maine State Police, Sharon was last seen at approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday, September 19, after leaving a family gathering in Jonesboro with Kinsley and Sawyer. The children, who were from Bar Harbor, were traveling with their grandmother toward Machias. However, they did not arrive at their expected destination, prompting relatives to raise concerns and contact authorities.

A search operation was launched involving multiple law enforcement and emergency agencies. During the search, the Bar Harbor Police Department obtained cellphone location information from Sharon’s phone. The information indicated a location in the water near the boat ramp at the end of Schoppee Point Road in Roque Bluffs.

Maine State Police troopers, members of the Maine State Police Dive Team, and Maine Marine Patrol responded to the area. At approximately 7:00 a.m. Sunday, crews located the vehicle submerged in Pond Cove. The bodies of Sharon, Kinsley, and Sawyer were recovered along with the vehicle. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard also assisted with the response.

The three bodies were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where autopsies are expected to determine the cause and manner of death. Authorities have not yet publicly determined how the vehicle entered the water, and the circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under investigation.

The heartbreaking discovery has left relatives, friends, and members of the surrounding Maine communities grieving the loss of three family members. Sharon’s death has also brought particular sorrow to those who knew her as a grandmother, while Kinsley and Sawyer’s young lives have been remembered by those closest to their family.

As investigators work to establish what happened, loved ones are left to mourn Sharon, Kinsley, and Sawyer and remember the family moments they shared together. Further information is expected as the investigation and medical examinations continue.
