James Edward Price, Genevieve Huffaker and 4-Month-Old Baby Killed in Highway 42 Crash
The Myrtle Point and Coquille communities are mourning the tragic deaths of 32-year-old James Edward Price of Myrtle Point, 20-year-old Genevieve Marie Huffaker of Coquille, and a 4-month-old baby girl following a devastating head-on collision on Highway 42 in Coos County, Oregon.
The fatal crash happened at approximately 4:46 p.m. Saturday, September 19, near milepost 21 within the city limits of Myrtle Point. The collision claimed three lives, including that of an infant who had only just begun her life, leaving families, friends, and loved ones facing an unimaginable loss.
According to the Oregon State Police, 69-year-old Gregory Paul Olson of Myrtle Point was traveling eastbound in a silver Land Rover LR3 at a high rate of speed. Police said Olson had reportedly fled from a Myrtle Point police officer who was attempting to make contact with him.
Investigators said Olson subsequently lost control of the Land Rover, crossed the center line, and struck a westbound blue Subaru Forester head-on. The Subaru was being driven by Price and was towing a jet ski at the time of the collision.
Price was pronounced dead at the scene. Huffaker, who was traveling as a passenger in the Subaru, was transported to an area hospital but later died from her injuries. The 4-month-old baby girl was transported to a Portland-area hospital, where she also succumbed to her injuries.
Olson suffered serious injuries in the crash and remains hospitalized. Oregon State Police said the investigation remains ongoing, with members of the agency’s Collision Reconstruction Unit assisting investigators in determining the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision.
The loss of Price, Huffaker, and the infant has brought profound grief to their families and communities. Their deaths have left loved ones remembering three lives that were taken far too soon.
As the investigation continues, those who knew and loved the victims are left to grieve their sudden passing. The memories of James Edward Price, Genevieve Marie Huffaker, and the precious baby girl will remain with their families, friends, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking tragedy. May those mourning their loss find strength and comfort during the difficult days ahead.
