Justice Mcray Boyette Dies at 31 in Tragic U.S. 64 Crash

The Alexander County community is mourning the death of 31-year-old Justice Mcray Boyette of Winston-Salem, who was killed Monday morning in a devastating head-on collision involving a tow truck and a tractor-trailer on U.S. 64.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened at approximately 10:03 a.m. near Adams Pond Road, east of Taylorsville. Investigators said Boyette was driving a tow truck westbound on U.S. 64 when, for reasons that remain unclear, the vehicle crossed the center line into the eastbound lanes.

The tow truck then collided head-on with a tractor-trailer traveling in the opposite direction.

The impact caused the tow truck to catch fire, trapping Boyette inside the vehicle. Emergency crews responded to the scene, but Boyette was pronounced dead at the crash site. His death has left family members, friends, and others who knew him grieving a sudden and heartbreaking loss.

The tractor-trailer was being driven by 56-year-old Crystal Sue Austin of Lenoir. Austin suffered serious injuries in the collision and was airlifted to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for medical treatment.

U.S. 64 was closed for several hours while emergency responders worked at the scene and Highway Patrol investigators examined the wreckage. Authorities documented the circumstances surrounding the collision as they worked to determine what caused the tow truck to leave its westbound lane and enter oncoming traffic.

According to the Highway Patrol, no charges will be filed in connection with the crash.

At this time, authorities have not released additional information explaining why Boyette’s tow truck crossed the center line. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision remains important as family and friends cope with his sudden death.

Boyette’s death is a tragic reminder of how quickly a routine journey can turn into a devastating event. His passing has brought sorrow to those who knew him, while Austin continues to recover from the serious injuries she sustained in the crash.

Further information about funeral arrangements or memorial services for Boyette had not been provided in the available report. Loved ones and members of the Winston-Salem community are now left to remember a 31-year-old man whose life was suddenly cut short in the Alexander County collision.
