Sergio Quintero, Alex Aldaco and Junior Perez Die in Houston County Boating Accident

The Crockett, Texas, community is mourning the tragic deaths of 18-year-old Sergio Quintero, 20-year-old Alex Aldaco, and 18-year-old Junior Perez following a boating accident on a private lake in Houston County.

The three young men were among four people fishing from a boat when the vessel overturned Sunday evening, September 20, sending everyone aboard into the water. Their sudden deaths have left their families, friends, and loved ones facing an immense loss as they remember three young lives that ended far too soon.

According to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, authorities received a 911 call at approximately 8:06 p.m. reporting the boating accident on the private lake. Juan Hernandez, also of Crockett, was able to swim safely to shore after the boat overturned. However, Sergio, Alex, and Junior remained missing, prompting an extensive search operation.

Deputies and investigators responded to the scene and worked with multiple emergency agencies to search the lake and surrounding area. The Grapeland Fire Department, Houston County Search and Rescue, Texas Game Wardens, and the Huntsville Fire Department Dive Team all assisted in the recovery effort.

The search continued into Monday morning, September 21. Sergio Quintero was located at approximately 7:45 a.m. A short time later, search crews found Alex Aldaco. At about 9:15 a.m., authorities located Junior Perez, bringing the search for all three missing men to an end.

Authorities have indicated that the incident appears to have been a tragic boating accident, and no foul play is suspected. The investigation has been turned over to Texas Game Wardens as officials continue working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The deaths of Sergio, Alex, and Junior have brought profound grief to their families and the wider Crockett community. At just 18, 20, and 18 years old, respectively, the young men had much of life still ahead of them.
