Timothy Holst, 59, Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash Near Friona, Texas
The community is mourning the tragic death of Timothy James Holst, a 59-year-old truck driver from Rowley, Iowa, who was killed in a serious three-vehicle collision in Parmer County, Texas, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal crash happened at approximately 2 p.m. at the intersection of State Highway 86 and State Highway 214, south of Friona. The collision involved two tractor-trailers and a Ford Expedition, leaving Holst dead and two other people injured.
Investigators said the crash began when a 2015 Ford Expedition traveling eastbound on SH 86 failed to yield at a stop sign and entered the intersection. The SUV, driven by 30-year-old Shayanne Marie Clover of Garden City, Kansas, collided with a 2019 Mack tractor-trailer traveling southbound on SH 214.
The force of that initial collision pushed the Mack truck across the roadway and into the northbound lanes, where it struck a 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Holst.
Holst suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, Texas DPS reported. Authorities have not identified any separate medical condition or other cause of death, with his fatal injuries attributed to the collision.
The crash caused significant damage to the vehicles. Following the impact between the tractor-trailers, the trailer attached to the Mack became detached and came to rest on top of Holst’s Freightliner, underscoring the severity of the collision.
Clover was seriously injured and transported to Parmer County Community Hospital. She was expected to be airlifted to University Medical Center in Lubbock when weather conditions permitted. Jose Omar Cano, 51, of Olton, Texas, who was driving the Mack tractor-trailer, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital.
Authorities reported cloudy weather and wet pavement at the time of the collision. The posted speed limit in the area was 75 mph.
For Holst’s family, friends, and those who knew him, his death represents a sudden and devastating loss. As a professional truck driver, he was traveling through the Texas Panhandle when the crash occurred.
The Texas Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Preliminary findings remain subject to further investigation, and authorities have not reported additional charges in connection with the crash.
Holst’s death leaves behind a community mourning a life lost suddenly, while two other people continue recovering from injuries sustained in the devastating collision.
