Rashied M. Schuelke Obituary: 15-Year-Old Dies After La Crosse Shooting
LA CROSSE, Wis. — The La Crosse community is mourning the death of Rashied M. Schuelke, 15, who died after being shot Thursday evening near the intersection of 7th Street and Hood Street, according to the La Crosse Police Department.
Police said officers were called to the area at approximately 5:22 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting. When first responders arrived, they found Schuelke suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel immediately began life-saving efforts before transporting the teenager to a local hospital.
Despite those efforts, Schuelke was later pronounced dead at the hospital. His death has left family members, friends and others in the La Crosse community grieving the loss of a young life.
Authorities have not publicly released detailed information about what led to the shooting. A possible motive has also not been disclosed, and investigators continue to work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A significant police presence was reported in the area following the shooting. At least one person was reportedly taken away in handcuffs, although authorities have not publicly confirmed an arrest or identified anyone as a suspect in connection with Schuelke’s death.
The nearby Emplify Health by Gundersen hospital was also briefly placed under lockdown as a precaution. A hospital representative said the temporary security measure was part of standard safety procedures intended to protect patients, visitors and employees following the incident.
As the investigation continues, Schuelke’s family is raising funds to help cover funeral and cremation expenses. The fundraising effort reflects the immediate needs facing his loved ones as they prepare to say goodbye to the 15-year-old.
