Clemente Diaz, Death, Richwood, West Virginia Obituary: Beloved Physician and Veteran Passed Away Unexpectedly
The community of Richwood, West Virginia, is mourning the death of Clemente Diaz, who passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, at the age of 94, surrounded by his loving family. Born October 5, 1931, in Parral, Mexico, Clemente was the youngest of seven children and immigrated to the United States in 1960, where he built a remarkable life centered on faith, family, medicine, and service.
For more than five decades, Dr. Diaz served Richwood and surrounding rural communities as a medical doctor, becoming a trusted physician and compassionate presence to generations of patients. He also served five years in the United States Army Reserves and was a longtime member of Richwood Christian Church. His faith remained a central part of his life, while his intelligence, quick wit and sense of humor made him especially memorable to those who knew him.
Clemente shared a devoted marriage with his late wife, Gail, whom he described through his life as the love of his life. Together they enjoyed family, travel, and adventures to places including Montana and Yellowstone. He also loved skiing, the outdoors and cheering for the West Virginia Mountaineers. Above all, he took immense pride in his family and leaves behind children Jennifer, Susan and Danny, eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and another great-grandchild expected in September.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 14, 2026, at Richwood Christian Church, with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 13. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park. Clemente Diaz leaves a legacy spanning medicine, military service, faith and four generations of family. His life of compassion and dedication will continue through the patients he served and the family he loved so deeply.
