The Central City Police Department is mourning the death of Officer Jason Phillips, Unit 163, whose passing on September 17, 2026, has brought deep sadness to fellow officers, first responders, family members, friends, and the Muhlenberg County community he served.

Phillips joined the Central City Police Department on November 16, 2020, beginning a career dedicated to protecting and serving the people of Central City. During nearly six years with the department, he became a familiar and valued member of the police force, building strong relationships with colleagues and members of the community.

In announcing his death, the department remembered Phillips as more than a fellow officer. He was described as a friend and brother to those who served alongside him. The close relationships he developed reflected the strong bonds shared among officers who work together in service to their community.

Phillips was also remembered for his personality and sense of humor. According to the department, he loved his family, coworkers, and the community he served. His ability to joke with colleagues and bring laughter into the workplace created moments of connection and relief during the demanding realities of police work.

His death has left a significant void within the Central City Police Department. Fellow officers and community members are now grieving the loss of a public servant whose career was defined by service, friendship, and commitment to those around him.

Following his passing, officials arranged a procession from the Muhlenberg/Ohio County line on the Western Kentucky Parkway to Tucker Funeral Home. Community members were encouraged to line the procession route, including South 2nd Street toward the funeral home, to show their support for Phillips’ family.

The procession gave residents, first responders, fellow officers, and others an opportunity to come together and honor Phillips while supporting those closest to him during a difficult time.

The Central City Police Department marked September 17, 2026, as Phillips’ End of Watch, recognizing the conclusion of his service to the community.

As family, friends, and colleagues continue to mourn, Phillips’ fellow officers carry forward the responsibilities they once shared with him. His friendship, humor, dedication, and commitment to Central City have left a lasting impression.

The community’s thoughts and condolences remain with Jason Phillips’ family, friends, fellow officers, and everyone affected by his death.
