Josias Perez Death: 26-Year-Old California Man Killed in I-90 Head-On Crash

A tragic late-night collision on Interstate 90 near LeRoy, New York, has claimed the life of 26-year-old Josias Perez of Caruthers, California, after a pickup truck traveling in the wrong direction caused a devastating multi-vehicle crash.

According to information released by New York State Police, the fatal collision occurred shortly before 11 p.m. when Perez was driving a pickup truck westbound in the eastbound lanes of the New York State Thruway. His vehicle collided head-on with an SUV before striking a tractor-trailer, resulting in a violent chain-reaction crash.

The impact caused extensive damage to the pickup truck and brought eastbound traffic to a standstill as emergency responders, police officers, and investigators worked through the night at the scene.

First responders arrived shortly after the crash, but Perez suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Despite emergency crews’ efforts, the young California man could not be saved.

The SUV involved in the crash was being driven by a 44-year-old woman from Canandaigua, New York. She sustained injuries in the collision and was treated by emergency personnel before being transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was reportedly not seriously injured.

News of Perez’s sudden death has brought grief to his hometown of Caruthers, a small community in Fresno County, California. At just 26 years old, Perez’s unexpected death has left family members, friends, and others who knew him mourning a life lost far from home.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances that led Perez to enter and travel through the eastbound lanes in the wrong direction. Investigators are expected to examine the vehicles involved, the roadway, and other evidence that could help determine how the crash happened.

Officials have not yet released additional details regarding where Perez entered the interstate or why he was traveling against traffic. Toxicology testing and vehicle inspections may also form part of the continuing investigation.

The deadly crash serves as another reminder of the dangers associated with wrong-way driving on major highways. For Perez’s family and loved ones, however, the investigation cannot undo the devastating loss of a young man whose life ended unexpectedly.

As authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision, family and friends in California continue to mourn Josias Perez and prepare to remember him and bring him home for his final farewell.
