Four people, including a 12-year-old girl, tragically lost their lives on Thursday, October 1, 2026, following a devastating railway collision in Ghidigeni, Galați County, Romania.
The fatal incident occurred at a railway crossing on DJ240 when a passenger train traveling on the Bucharest North–Iași route struck a van carrying the victims. The impact was severe, leaving no chance of survival for those inside the vehicle.
Emergency response teams, including firefighters, an extrication unit, and ambulance crews, quickly arrived at the scene. Despite their efforts, all four occupants — a man, two women, and a young girl — were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to local reports, the victims were members of the same family, believed to be the driver, his daughter, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter, making the tragedy even more heartbreaking for the community.
Following the crash, rail traffic in the area was temporarily suspended as authorities conducted investigations and cleared the wreckage. The train remained on site until all necessary checks were completed.
